Bell-Ringing enthusiasts meet in the tower of the Watton-at-Stone Parish Church on Monday evenings, at 19:00hrs, for practice sessions and ring the bells at most of the church events, including the regular Sunday morning services, weddings and other services.
Up until 1976, the tower of the Parish Church contained a peal of 6 bells. Numbers 2 and 3 of which dated from 1682, whereas the remainder dated from 1852 when they were recast. The tenor weighed 14 cwt.
Following the cracking of one of the bells and general deterioration of the bell-hangings and frame, the peal was replaced by a peal of 8 bells (about 100 years old) from Upper Clapton; a redundant church in North London.
Through the valiant efforts of a small but dedicated team of volunteers, the peal was hung in a completely renovated frame in the tower and was dedicated by the Bishop of Hertford in July 1978.
